After a forty five minutes  hike on La Mina Trail, in the El Yunque rain forest, Puerto Rico, you will find  La Mina falls.   These falls drops over 35 feet into an exquisite pool filled with refreshing mountain waters, where you can feel the mist, and see sunlight, driffing throughout the dense vegetation.

Details, texture, Depth, and colors.  All combined by the artist,  to provide us with the atmosphere of this beautiful, refreshing, mystic place.

You can always find a Coquí on all Migdalia´s paintings that have been Inspired by any subject or theme from Puerto Rico.  On this painting, you will find a Coquí Silhouette formed within the branches, on the upper left side of this painting.

A semi-bust of an elder Taíno indian, has been painted by the artist within the water falls,  in remembrance the Taínos indians. His countenance bares the suffering they endured under the cruelty of the Conquistadors.  His eyes, searching for memories of her beloved “Borikén”, as his cry for freedom turns into whispers within the sound of the crashing water at La Mina’s Falls.

  The Tainos

In spite of having been almost completely wiped out within two decades, the Taínos left the people of Puerto Rico, their heritage, and legacy.

The end of the Puerto Rican Taíno simple existence ended over 500 years ago, on November 19th, 1493. Countless atrocities were committed by the Spaniards upon the peaceful Taínos.

In 1516, there were so few Taínos left in the Caribbean that Father Bartolomé de las Casas won a "crown order" to free the Indians.   In 1542, a Bishop was sent to Puerto Rico to inform the Indians of their "new complete freedom".
